Belize 2023 - Thursday, July 27 2023

We had to wake up early this morning to catch the bus which left before 7:00am. When we got up we did not have much time before breakfast so we had to quickly pack up everything that we couldn't the night before, then get ready for the day. We ate Johnny cake sandwiches for breakfast then loaded up the bus. We took the bus to Belize City where we dropped off most of our luggage at a local church (we kept an overnight bag with us). We then took pictures in front of the famous Belize sign before boarding the boat to Caye Caulker.
The boat ride took about 45 minutes but the views were beautiful the whole way! Once we got to Caye Caulker we immediately began our snorkeling. We first went to an area to feed big fish. Some of the fish were as big as 3 feet long! We then headed out to the coral reef to explore, everything was beautiful! Then we got back on the boat to swim with sharks and sting rays. They would swim right next to us and sometimes even brush against us which was so cool!
Once our snorkeling excursion ended, we went to the island to get checked in to our hotel rooms. Once we were all settled in we went out for lunch together. The wait at the restaurant was a little long, but we did not mind because it was good fellowship time.
After lunch we split into groups to explore the island for a couple hours. Some groups went to The Split (a canal within the island), some went back to the hotel to rest, some went shopping, and some had time to do multiple things.
After our free time we met back up for our evening meeting. We all got frozen drinks from a nearby shop while doing the devotional and reflected on our time in Belize. Once our meeting was over we had fellowship time then it was time for dinner which was a buffet dinner. Once we were done with dinner we prayed for our trip leaders which truly was a powerful moment! We then went back to our hotel to have some chill time before bed.

Our Evening Devotional - John 2:1-12:

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman,[a] why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.

Come back tomorrow to read about our last two days, traveling home
